Delicious Ada Pradhaman- Kerala Sadhya Payasam

Ada Pradhaman (updated pic) Today's recipe is a classic dessert from Kerala made on all special occasions. Ada pradhaman is a sweet delicacy made out of rice flakes, coconut milk, and jaggery.  Ada is pasta-like thin ribbon-shaped, dry rice flakes that are available in Indian stores. The combination of soft-cooked creamy rice flakes, jaggery, and coconut milk, along with the flavor of ghee and cardamom, tastes divine. Ghee roasted nuts, raisins, coconut bits, dried ginger powder, and roasted cumin powder adds another layer of flavor and taste. Unlike refined sugar, jaggery is often used in traditional recipes as a sweetener to make snacks and desserts. Jaggery adds a rich molasses taste and color to this pudding. Ada pradhaman is an irresistible treat and adored by all Sadhya lovers.    Ada Pradhaman is part of the traditional Kerala Sadhya, the traditional vegetarian banquet. Rice and an array of pickles, vegetable curries, and puddings are served on banana leaves....

Palada Pradhaman/ Payasam

Palada pradhaman/Paal ada payasam Palada pradhaman is a very popular dessert in Kerala and is made on festivals like Vishu, Onam and special occasions like marriage feasts. The secret to this recipe is slow cooking the ada in milk and sugar till it reduces and becomes creamy like condensed milk. Added to this is the flavor of ghee and cardamom and roasted cashew nuts. If this wasn't good enough, here is another way to make your payasam eating unforgettable. Have it with sweet Boli .Palada payasam is served along with Boli in wedding Sadhya , in south Kerala, especially in Triruvananthapuram region and the combination is divine. I have also posted ada pradhaman recipe with jaggery and coconut. This ada payasam is made with milk and sugar. In earlier times it was very difficult to make this pradhaman and it took hours to prepare the rice ada (looks similar to flakes) used in this recipe. Grounded rice paste was spread in plantain leaves rolled and submerged into boiling water...

Beetroot Halwa

Beetroot Halwa Beetroot Halwa is one of my all-time favorite recipes and there is a lot of childhood memories associated with this dessert. Hence I have decided to post it as my first recipe in this new space. I am new to blogging and am eagerly looking forward to making friends in the cyber and blogging world. Beetroot halwa has been a favorite in my family. My Mom makes this on festive occasions. Beetroot halwa is one of the most requested desserts in our home. It has a wonderful aroma and it tastes great. And best of all wonderful naturally bright color, so this dessert has no artificial colors. As a child, I was never a great fan of beetroot especially due to its overpowering earthy smell. But I am at loss for words when it comes to this halwa. As the halwa cooks beets flavors change to a rich sweet aroma that makes it so appetizing. I guess it is the combined flavor of beets, condensed milk, and ghee that makes it so unique. The recipe that my mom gave me was with who...
