Kozhuva Pepper Fry/Anchovies Pepper Fry

Kozhuva Pepper Fry/Anchovies Pepper Fry Anchovies when fried are crispy and super tempting. This can be served with rice or as an appetizer. It  has the spicy kick of pepper and the flavor of curry leaves. You can use either green peppercorns or ground black pepper. Try this crispy and tasty fish fry, you will surely love it. Ingredients Kozhuva/ Anchovies- 1/2 lb Egg white-1 Green pepper corns- 1 tbs (or ground black pepper according to taste) Turmeric powder- 1/3 tsp Ginger- thin slice Curry leaves - 2-3 springs Coriander leaves- 3 tbs chopped Corn starch- 2 tbs salt and oil for frying   Make a fine paste of pepper corns, ginger,curry leaves and coriander leaves. Into  this add turmeric powder, egg white and corn starch and make a smooth batter. Clean fish and marinate with this paste and set aside for five to ten minutes. Spicy sardine fry is my absolute comfort food and goes well with steamed rice and vegetables. Curried or fried sardine fish tastes delicious. Sardine is a versatile fish that I love experimenting with. Earlier I post Karimeen polichathu and chemmeen polichathu . Polichathu is a good deal more delicious than curried fish, because of the cooking technique. If you are new to this, it is worth a try. It is a spicy, grilled masala fish wrapped in banana leaf. Sardine/Mathi Fry Today's recipe is my absolute comfort food.... Sardine fish fry/mathi fry. It is quick and simple and perfect side dish for rice. Ingredients Mathi/ Sardine- 6-8 medium sizes Onion- 1 medium Fennel seeds- a pinch Pepper powder- 1/4 tsp Ginger chopped- 2 tsp Curry leaves- a few Chilly powder- 1 tsp Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp Pepper powder- 1/4 tsp Fenugreek powder- a pinch Ginger garlic paste-1 tsp salt to taste Coconut oil for frying   Clean fish and squeeze some lemon juice,rub on the fish and then give a final rinse. Make a few gashes on the fish. Mix chilly powder, turmeric powder,pepper powder,fenugreek powder,ginger garlic paste and salt. Sprinkle little water and make a smooth paste. You can add a few drops or vinegar or lemon juice instead of water to make a paste. Keep half tsp of masala for later use. Crispy fried Anchovies/Netholi/ Podimeen Varuthathu Crispy fried Anchovies is super yummy and invokes childhood memories. Do you like fish as a snack? well I love crispy fried anchovies as a snack. My grandmother and mother used to make them when we were kids and gave it in small plates for snacking.  This is a quick and easy fish fry with Veloori or white sardine. It is crispy and tasty fry. This recipe is from my mother in law. Meen Mutta Varuthathu/Fish Roe Fry Today's post is another fish roe recipe. I have already posted a recipe of meen mutta thoran or fish raw sauteed with shredded coconut. This one is a fried version and is best with sardine fish roe as you can make small bite sized fitters.  But you can use any type of fish roe. For this fry the fish roe is marinated in a spicy batter and then shallow fried.This can be served as a appetizer or as a side dish with rice.
