Crispy Calamari/Squid Rings

Crispy Calamari/Squid Rings

Crispy calamari rings can be served as an appetizer or as a snack. Squid/koontal deep fried and crispy is very appetizing. I usually make the Kerala style spicy roasted squid/koontal. But this one is quick recipe and kids will enjoy eating them. This is breaded calamari, you can also try tempura batter to make them.

Ingredients
Calamari/squid - 1/2 lb
Paprika- 1/2 tsp
Garlic paste- 1/2 tsp
Salt and pepper to taste
Lemon juice- 1/2 tsp
finely chopped parsley-1/2 tsp
All purpose flour- 2 tsp
Egg- 2
Bread crumbs- 1 cup
Oil for deep frying

Mix calamari/squid with salt, pepper, lemon juice, paprika, garlic paste and chopped parsley. Mix well and set aside for at least 10 minutes.
In a bowl beat egg with two tsp of water. In another bowl put the bread crumbs.
Toss calamari with the flour. Take one ring at a time, dip first in egg and then roll in bread crumbs.Layer then flat on a tray and keep in the fridge for 10-20 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan. Gently slide calamari rings into the oil,do not over crowd or fry in high heat. Keep the heat medium and fry till both sides are crispy for 3-4 minutes. Drain into paper towels. Serve warm with tomato sauce.

Try this,
Hope you will all enjoy!

My birthday also comes in December, so it is a double celebration for me :) How is the Christmas planning coming along for everyone? It is exactly three weeks for Christmas and I am planning to share a few recipes for the holidays this year. This is the first one I wanted to share with all of you -Kerala style sweet delicacy- a real nostalgia, the Black Halwa. Halwas has always amazed me with its simplicity, unique texture and taste. Capsicum Chicken/ Bell Pepper Chicken with Roasted Coconut Gravy Capsicum/ Bell pepper chicken is a spicy and delicious chicken curry with bell pepper and roasted coconut gravy. This colorful chicken curry is an old comfort food recipe. It has a delicious aroma and a peppery flavor, and it happens to please everyone at home. This is my mom's recipe, and I love recreating some of her recipes- yeah almost all of her recipes! She keeps things interesting, and some curries are a feast to the eye. Don't you think this curry looks impressive and colorful? I highly recommend different colored bell peppers- red, orange, yellow, and green, but you can choose the one you like. The addition of capsicum gives this chicken curry a wonderful flavor and goes well with naans, chapatis, ghee rice, fried rice, or with freshly baked bread. Bell pepper is crisp and tender, and are delightful bites. The dry roasting of coconut and spices will bring out the essential oil and makes it more a...
