Beef Varattiyathu

Here is a simple and delicious recipe with beef. This is a spicy beef preparation which is neither a curry nor a fry...its somewhere in between.Beef is pressure cooked and then the gravy is thickened  till it becomes dry and gets well coated with the meat.It is perfect side dish for rice and parottas.

Ingredients

Beef - 3/4 Kg
Chopped Onions-2
Ginger garlic paste- 2 tsp
Chilly powder-1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder 1 tsp
Pepper powder- 1 1/3 tsp
Fennel powder- 1 tsp
Cloves -3-4

Shallots- 1 cup
Coconut slices- 1/2 cup
Curry leaves- a few
Coconut oil- 3 tsp


Clean and wash beef into small pieces. Marinate with ginger garlic paste and all the spice powders( turmeric powder,chilly,coriander and pepper and fennel) and salt keep aside for half an hour. Pressure cook this with chopped onions and half cup of water. Put heat in high and after one whistle reduce to low flame and cook for two more whistles. Remove lid and continue cooking till all the gravy thickens.
Heat oil in a pan and add curry leaves and coconut slices and saute till coconut pieces become golden brown. Add in the shallots and saute till it changes color. Now add in the cooked meat and allow to get roasted. Serve with chapatis,rice or parottas.

  7. hi suja, first time i see dried curry kind of spices..
    we also have our traditional dried gravy (more coconut milk ADDED, then stir in a wok, until the gravy dries up, but it has no curry spices.)

  10. Beef is my fav meet.Its something that my parents dont eat,so never got a chance to eat till I reached college,athinu shesham beef is my fav..now I cook,but not often like chickcen..

Chicken Puffs

Spicy chicken puffs is a favorite tea time snack with my family..when I say spicy it is the really spicy peppery chicken puffs with hot piping tea.  This crunchy munchy tea time snack is perfect for every occasion. Puffs can be made with several types of filling. But my most favorite is this chicken filled pastry. I was so happy to find a pack of ready to roll puff pasty sheet at our local grocery store. I was really missing the spicy yummy puffs sold at the corner bakery near my home in Kerala. Eggplant Fry/Breaded

Fried eggplant is a simple and easy recipe. Eggplant is a wonderful vegetable but I like it best when fried and my mother had a tough time making us ( me and sister )eat this when we were kids. But we made no fuss when it was fried. This is definitely lot more calories but what is wonderful in this recipe is that it gets  fried crispy but not soggy. The best  way to fry eggplant is to use very little oil as it has a tendency to absorb and you will never get it crispy. It goes well with rice and dal/sambar, but it is also a nice snack or an appetizer.  Try this recipe ..you will surely love this.
