Fish Puttu/Fish Stir Fry

Fish Puttu/Fish Stir Fry

Fish puttu is a delicious comfort dish. It is scrambled fish stir fried with onions and spices. I often make scrambled fish with caramelized onion, but this is a more healthier version and tasty too. I tried this recipe for the first time at my aunts house in Chennai. It looked very similar to meen thoran, but had a different taste and I love this dish.Any meaty fish can be used to make this recipe like shark, salmon or king fish. Here I have used Tuna.Fish puttu tastes delicious with rice and rasam.

Ingredients
Fish- 1 1/2 lb
(here I used fresh Tuna)
Onion- 1 medium
Chopped Ginger- 2 tbs
Chopped garlic- 1 tbs
Grated coconut- 3 tbs
Green chilly- 3-4
Cumin- 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
Chilly powder- 1/3 tsp
Pepper powder- 1/3 tsp
Asafotida- a pinch
Urad dal-1 tsp
Curry leaves- a few
Chopped coriander- a hand full
lemon juice- a few drops

Cook fish with turmeric, salt and pepper powder. Sprinkle a few drops of water and cook. Allow this to cool. If the fish has skin and bones take it out and using a fork scramble it and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and when they splutter add urad dal and let it get golden brown. Add hing, curry leaves, ginger, garlic and green chilly and stir fry for a minute. Next add onion and saute till golden brown. Add chilly powder, a pinch of turmeric, cumin powder, coconut and the shredded fish. Stir fry this for two to three minutes and add chopped coriander and lemon juice. Serve with rice.

Hope you will all enjoy!

Berry Cake

This is a berry cake which I made a few days back. Here I used white cake recipe but dashed in a few black berries and strawberries. This cake complements any type of filling or frosting but I have just dusted it with powdered sugar to make it an accompaniment with coffee and my family really enjoyed this cake . I used self rising flour but you can use all purpose flour instead by adding in one third tsp of salt and one and one half tsp of baking powder to each cup of plain flour. Ingredients Self Raising flour- 2 cups Egg white- 3 eggs ( half Cup) Butter - one stick ( 4 ounce) Sugar- 1 cup  Confectionery sugar- 1/3 cup Milk- 1/2 cup  Vanilla essence- 2 tsp Black berries- 1 pint Strawberries - 1/2cup Preheat oven to 350 F. Set rack in he middle of the oven Grease pan with butter and layer with parchment paper and again grease with butter and dust with flour. This will ensure that the cake comes off properly. Set aside.  Beat egg whites and vanilla extra...

Beef Fry/ Kerala Pepper Beef Fry

Kerala Beef Fry Beef Fry (Kerala Style) is very popular especially in Tattukadas or fast food outlets. It can also be made at home. If you are not familiar with tattukadas they are makeshift eateries flocked by local people throughout the day and serve local delicacies. Beef curry or beef varattiyathu is also served in thattukadas and restaurants in Kerala. Beef fry and Kerala layered parotta is a popular combo. It’s a great side dish for a crowd, so next time you have a party, you should give this a try. It is an easy recipe and tastes super delicious. Now when I say beef fry it might get a bit of a bad rap in the ‘wellness world’. Let me assure you this beef fry is finger-licking delicious with bold flavors. Even though it is called beef fry it is not deep-fried. The beef is first cooked with aromatic spices and then further pan-fried or roasted till the meat gets coated with masala's and crispy on the outside. The beef is succulent with the right amount of heat and flavo...

Nadan Mutton Curry/ Kerala Mutton Curry

Nadan Mutton curry Nadan mutton curry is deliciously spicy and a much-coveted dish in restaurants and eateries in Kerala. This luscious flavored mutton curry has the deep essence of Kerala cooking, with aromatic spices and coconut abundantly available in the state. If you wish for some spicy non vegetarian weekend meal, here is one to relish. This curry is magical, with few ingredients, but with great flavors. For me, it is a homey dish that my family adores. It tastes divine with Kerala parottas or with soft lacy appam, you can also serve this steamed rice, puttu, or chapati. Naadan mutton curry is easy to make. What makes this dish flavorful and inviting is the flavor of fresh ground masala, coconut oil, and the fresh taste of curry leaves. In this recipe, I have also added mint. I love adding fried mint in my homemade mutton curry just like my mom( but it is optional). There are chilies- lots of them for a fiery look, and I prefer Kashmiri chilly, which has color and les...
