Thai fried bananas/ Kluay Khaek is a must-try yummy Thai street food. Fritters are delightfully sweet to satisfy your sweet cravings, crispy and crunchy on the outside with the creamy soft inside. Batter-fried fruit is by no means uncommon. There are so many variations out there, and fried bananas with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or drizzled with chocolate syrup is a delicious treat. Thai bananas taste best on their own, the crispness is what makes them the best-tasting fried banana fitters out there. It is the batter that makes these fried bananas so delicious. The batter is not cakey, but light and crispy. Rice flour makes it light and crisp, and coconut milk adds flavor. Sesame seeds and freshly grated coconut add a delightful crunch. These fitters are not overly sweet but have enough sweetness to indulge with hot piping tea. Bananas are naturally sweet, and the small variety I have used here is sweet and flavorful. These golden brown crispy delicious fitters have a taste all to their own and are addictive. It is so easy to put together, and they are gone in minutes.

Banana fritters are a staple at home, especially Kerala pazham pori/ plantain fritters. I make them all the time, especially when I have overripe bananas sitting on the counter. Splitting them in half lengthwise, dipping them in batter, and frying them up crispy and golden brown is something I do religiously every week.  When I first read the recipe for Thai fried bananas, it sounded interesting. The ingredients are sweet banana, rice flour, coconut milk, and freshly grated coconut. You can find Thai banana/ Burro bananas at any South Asian market. If you cannot get burro bananas, use any banana with a firm texture to make these fitters. It is a sweet dessert that tastes delicious on its own, but to make it extra special, serve it with some vanilla ice cream. Give this recipe a try, you will surely love it.


 Crispy Thai Fried Bananas- Street Food Inspired Banana Fritters

Cooking time- 15 minutes
Cuisine- Thai

Ingredients
Thai Bananas- 7-8
Rice flour- 2 cup
Baking soda- 1/8 tsp
Coconut milk- 1 cup
water - 1 1/2 cup
(adjust according to consistency you need)
Sugar- 1/2 cup
Fresh grated coconut- 3/4 cup
Sesame seeds- 1 tbs
Oil for frying

Peel the bananas and then slit them lengthwise. I cut it into three pieces lengthwise.
In a large mixing bowl, combine rice flour, sugar, a pinch of salt, baking powder, freshly grated coconut, and sesame seeds. Add water and coconut milk and mix into a smooth batter with no lumps. The batter will be thin, to begin with, but will thicken as it sits. So adjust the consistency by adding more water if needed. Let it sit for 10 minutes on the counter.

Put banana slices into the batter. Pick up one slice at a time, make sure it is coated with the batter on all sides, and gently slide into the hot oil. Fry in batches. Flip and fry till both sides are evenly brown.
Drain excess oil using a paper towel. Serve on its own or drizzle with honey or with ice cream.
