Chala/Sardine Fish Fry Spicy sardine fry with rice is my absolute comfort food. Curried or fried sardine fish tastes delicious. Sardine/ Chala/Mathi is found in abundance along the long coastline of Kerala, and so many different ways to cook sardine. Sardines are sustainable food for the coastal regions and are inexpensive and healthy. My favorite way to enjoy sardine is quick and easy fry. These pictures were clicked, during our recent visit to Kerala. It was the rainy season, and we were lucky to enjoy this yummy fish fry. Spicy Chilly Sardine/Mathi  Adukkiyathu Sardine is very common sea food in Kerala. I love this small oily fish and tastes best when it is fried. Mathi adukkiyathu refers to layering of the fish and the masala.This recipe is very similar to the Pepper Sardine posted earlier. But the best part of this recipe is that, the fish and the masala is spicy and slightly crispy. This is inspired from a recipe I found this in a newspaper and I guess it is one among the collection of Mrs K. M. Mathew recipes.Had  tried several of her recipes in the past and they have turned out really good. Mathi/ Sardine Pollichathu Sardine is a small oily fish found plenty in coastal regions of South India. It is sustainable seafood, and several cuisines have unique ways to cook this healthy fish. Spicy sardine fry is my absolute comfort food and goes well with steamed rice and vegetables. Curried or fried sardine fish tastes delicious. Polichathu is a good deal more delicious than curried fish, because of the cooking technique. If you are new to this, it is worth a try. It is a spicy, grilled masala fish wrapped in banana leaf. Sardine/Mathi Fry

Sardine/Mathi Fry Today's recipe is my absolute comfort food.... Sardine fish fry/mathi fry. It is quick and simple and perfect side dish for rice. Ingredients Mathi/ Sardine- 6-8 medium sizes Onion- 1 medium Fennel seeds- a pinch Pepper powder- 1/4 tsp Ginger chopped- 2 tsp Curry leaves- a few Chilly powder- 1 tsp Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp Pepper powder- 1/4 tsp Fenugreek powder- a pinch Ginger garlic paste-1 tsp salt to taste Coconut oil for frying   Clean fish and squeeze some lemon juice,rub on the fish and then give a final rinse. Make a few gashes on the fish. Mix chilly powder, turmeric powder,pepper powder,fenugreek powder,ginger garlic paste and salt. Sprinkle little water and make a smooth paste. You can add a few drops or vinegar or lemon juice instead of water to make a paste. Keep half tsp of masala for later use. Pepper Sardine Sardine is very common sea food in Kerala. This is a recipe which we tried during our recent visit to India. It was from my mother-in laws recipe book collection .
